A Family Day Out In Nairn 

Free parking at Marine Road and Cumming Street at The Links, and at the harbour, means you can head straight to the heart of the action for a day out in Nairn, Scotland’s Natural Playground. 

On arrival in Nairn, most families head straight for Central Beach. After a couple of hours spent paddling, sandcastle building and crab-hunting in rockpools, take a stroll along the promenade and you’ll discover a great choice of activities on The Links with its putting green, play area, paddling pool, adventure playpark and outdoor gym. You can catch lunch at Strathnairn Beach Cafe, James’ Café, the Bandstand Bar and Restaurant on the Links, or the Havelock on Crescent Road. 

After lunch, cross The Links for a short walk through pretty Viewfield park to the Nairn Museum, which you’ll find in Viewfield House, behind the statue of Dr Grigor, famed for bringing Nairn to prominence as a Victorian health resort. Once you’ve explored the museum, cross over King Street (A96) And walk through the free car park or lanes to High Street, where you can explore the local shops, cafes and restaurants for a bite of lunch or a picnic on The Links. 

You can then head back to the Links or beach for more activities or, If you want to explore further, walk down the High Street, and through historic Fishertown to the harbour. where you can admire the boats and try fishing from the end of the pier. Kids will love playing on wild, dune-backed East Beach, which begins next to the pier and stretches eastwards along the Moray Firth coast towards Findhorn. 

A day at the seaside is not compete without fish and chips by the beach. You’ll find The Dolphin on High Street, The Caley Take-Away, behind Ozzy’s on the High Street, Castaway at the Bus Station on King Street and Friar Tuck on Harbour Street are all good options for picking up an al fresco meal to finish off your perfect day out in Nairn.
