Cairngorms

50 miles south of Nairn

’s premier ski centre in the Cairngorms is less than hour’s drive from Nairn. A new funicular railway has stimulated a dramatic increase in visitor numbers, transporting skiers to the top of the slopes in winter and hill walkers and sightseers into the splendour of the mountains in summer. In winter, the cable railway carriages will take six minutes to ascend 3,600 feet. In summer, the journey will be longer to give visitors the chance to enjoy the breathtaking scenery. A range of water sports are available at nearby Loch Morlich and you can take a trip on the Strathspey Steam Railway from Aviemore.

The Landmark Visitor Centre at Carrbridge is another popular venue, particularly for young families.
