Dornoch Cathedral

60 miles north of Nairn

This magnificent cathedral, where Rocco, the son of Madonna and Guy Ritchie was christened, lies north of Inverness in the historic County of Sutherland .

Built originally by Bishop Gilbert de Moravia in the 13th century, it became the cathedral of the Virgin Mary. The tower is all that remains of the original building after it was burned by John Sinclair, Master of Caithness, and Iye Mackay of Strathnaver, in 1570. In 1614, the 13th Earl of Sutherland partially restored the cathedral to enable it to be used as a parish church. Between 1835 and 1837, it was rebuilt by the Duchess of Sutherland.
