The Highlands of Scotland are steeped in history. Dozens of castles still stand in the area today. Visit them and learn about the families and clans who once owned them, the feuds and battles fought over them and the ghosts that haunt them today. Many are within a short distance of Nairn.
To the east, just six miles outside Nairn, stands Brodie Castle. Travelling to the west, you will find Cawdor Castle, Kilravock Castle, Inverness Castle and – further afield – Eilean Donan Castle. To the south-west, on the shores of Loch Ness, stands Urquhart Castle. And south and south-east of Nairn are Ballindalloch Castle and the Royal holiday residence of Balmoral Castle. These are just a few of the castles in the area. There are many more castles with a history to tell.
